Growing Up in an Explosive Home and How it Effects us as Adults With Madison Domin, LCSW

Children who grow up in explosive households—whether marked by yelling, emotional volatility, or unsafe environments—often carry long-term effects into adulthood. These experiences can disrupt nervous system regulation, emotional development, and interpersonal functioning. The unpredictability of such environments may lead children to suppress their emotions, strive for perfection, or adopt rebellious behaviors as coping mechanisms. This upcoming Lunch and Learn, from MPP's senior clinician Madison Domin, LCSW, CCTP, will offer a concise introduction to the concept of household explosiveness, including its definitions, psychological impacts, and the various ways it can manifest. It will also explore how individuals can begin to understand their experiences and take meaningful steps toward healing. By increasing awareness and providing psychoeducation, the goal is to foster compassion and insight into how early environments shape adult behavior—and how change is possible.
